What you must carry in your car in Czechia
A hire car does not always come with these. Check the boot before you drive away. Every item links to the official source it was checked against, with the date.

- High-visibility vest
- First aid kit
- Spare tyre or repair kit
Police may check all of this at the roadside. Keep the reflective vest inside the car within reach of the driver's seat, not in the boot, and put it on before you step out onto the road. The first aid kit no longer has to be replaced when the printed date passes, but the contents must be complete and undamaged. You do not need a spare wheel, wheel brace and jack if the car has a tyre repair kit, or run-flat tyres with a puncture warning, or a breakdown service contract covering the whole country. A hire car does not always have everything, so look before you drive away.

Winter equipment
Tyres and chains are equipment too, and the rules usually apply only between set dates or on signed roads.
Winter tyres
Required whenever the road is icy or snowy
Not a plain date rule. Between 1 November and 31 March you need winter tyres whenever there is a continuous layer of snow, ice or frost on the road, or when the weather makes it likely that there will be during your journey. Where a "Zimní výbava" sign marks the start of a section, winter tyres are required through that whole period whatever the road looks like. Tread depth must be at least 4 mm on all four wheels for a vehicle up to 3.5 t. The roadside fine is up to 2,000 CZK and police may stop you driving on. Ask the hire company what the car is fitted with.
